| ELEVATOR WORLD Editorial Staff
Last month, EW Online Extras included an introduction of the Asian staff for ELEVATOR WORLD India, EW’s latest publication. The response was so positive that EW has decided to do the same with its editorial staff based in the U.S., since there have been a number of changes since the last time it was featured on the website. Legal Issues
In its April 2008 issue, ELEVATOR WORLD announced plans to compile a series of Legal Issue columns written by EW legal consultant Marvin A. Jacobs and publish them in book form later this year. Jacobs began regularly writing his Legal Issues column in April 2001. This first installment, “An End to Lawsuits?”, can be read by clicking here. However, this was not the first Legal Issues article in EW. In fact, two articles from the father-and-son team of Marvin and Mark Jacobs appeared in EW in 1998 and 1999, respectively. “The Expert Witness in an Adversarial System,” which was also presented at the NAESA International workshop that same year, appeared in the November 1998 issue. Korean Elevator Safety Institute
At the last International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 178 meeting, which was held in Paris, the Korean Elevator Safety Institute presented a video and slide presentation on recent impact tests it had performed on elevator doors. The meeting and presentation were covered by EW Editor Robert S. Caporale in the April 2008 issue. A sample of the presentation can be viewed here.
Children and Elevator Safety
A team of medical researchers recently released a study to show the relationship between elevators and injuries to children. The results were discussed in an article in the April 2008 issue of EW. To learn more about children and elevator safety, click here.
