Aircraft Carrier Elevator

Wow, pretty impressive.  This is the USS George Washington CVN-73, a nuclear-powered supercarrier which has 3,880 square feet (360 m²) elevators to move planes between the flight deck and the hangar bay.  Now this is a vertical transportation machine!

  1. These elevators are designed by Naval Sea Systems Command, the opration is incredibly simple despite all the wire rope you see at the four corners, the elevator is electro hydraulic in it’s operation. Been out of the Navy for awhile, but one elevator was capable of lifting well over 128,000 lbs. No telling what the capabilities are now.
