Monday Mind Bender

I stumbled upon this mathematics problem this morning that was related to escalators.  I thought that I would pose it to our readers to get the brain waves flowing for the long work week.  I am not ashamed to say that I had no clue how to solve this math problem.  Math was not my strong point while in school.  I mostly preferred lunch and recess.

“I took fifty steps while walking down the escalator,” said Mr. Walker.
“I took seventy-five steps while walking down that escalator,” said Mr. Trotman, “but I was walking down three times as quickly as you were.”
If we stopped the escalator, how many steps would be visible? You should assume that each man walked at a constant rate, and that the escalator runs at a constant speed.
