You are looking at the first place winner of eVolo’s 2012 Skyscraper competition.  This particular illustration depicts the “Himalaya Water Tower,” a skyscraper proposed for the Himalayas that would help store and regulate water from the region’s 55,000 glaciers that comprise 40 percent of the world’s water supply.

“Established in 2006, the annual Skyscraper Competition recognizes outstanding ideas that redefine skyscraper design through the use of new technologies, materials, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organizations, along with studies on globalization, flexibility, adaptability, and the digital revolution,” eVolvo writes.

These futuristic, imaginary superstructures not only challenge contemporary design standards but also possess technology capable of saving the world.

Although not all designs in the competition elaborated on vertical transportation , they are all still really cool.
