Things that make you go hmmm: Miami’s giant “bird” building

Romanian architecture firm Armarada proposed a remarkable addition to the Miami skyline: a bird-inspired, “vertical nature” building that would generate its own electricity via a series of synthetic feathers fluttering on its exterior. Called Avis Magica, Latin for “the magic bird,” the 335 m free-form tower would dwarf its neighbors, and include a ground-floor museum, 120 m-tall aquarium (pumped with ocean water), tropical islands above the aquarium, and finally, an observation deck and artificial rain clouds. To see the “entire spectacle,” Armarada’s website reads, one would need to take two lifts.  Avis Magica was an entry into the Landmark Miami competition.
