TEHRAN INTERNATIONAL CONSTRUCTION EXHIBITION PLANNED

The 10th Tehran International Construction Exhibition will be held August 3-6 at the Tehran International Fair in Iran. COMPANY OPENS NEW LOGISTICS CENTER

Gustav Wolf Seil- und Drahtwerke GmbH and Co. KG recently opened a new logistics center in Rossleben, Germany. The new center is the company’s second such facility, with the other in Herzebrock, Germany. In the 1,400-square-meter fabrication hall, rope of various diameters will be cut to size, furnished with end fittings and installation elements, and sent to customers across the world. The site is about 10 kilometers from the Gustav Wolf production site in Nebra, Germany, where the Gütersloh, Germany-based company primarily manufactures rope for elevator and crane systems. The new logistics center was needed because the capacities at the Nebra site were not sufficient.

SPACE ELEVATOR CONFERENCE GAINS NOTABLE FIGURES

The International Space Elevator Consortium recently announced that Russian engineer Yuri Artsutanov and American engineer Jerome Pearson, pioneers of the modern Space Elevator concept, will appear at the 2010 Space Elevator Conference. Credited with independently creating the first modern blueprints for building a space elevator, the engineers have also been considered originators of the modern-day concept of the tensile structure that serves as the foundation of current space elevator research. The event will take place on August 12-15 at the Microsoft Conference Center and feature exploration of the technical, legal and social issues relating to building an elevator to space. STOCKHOLM TV TOWER MODERNIZATION

Wittur has reported that it will install a new elevator machine in the second shaft of the 155-m-tall Kaknäs Tower in Stockholm, Sweden. The new unit will have a rated load of 1200 kg (2700 kg empty car weight), a rated speed of 5 mps in 1:1 suspension and a travel height of 125 m. A modern Wittur WLG-28.4 gearless traction machine that has been running in the tower since 2006 will be replaced.
