EW TO PUBLISH “GREEN” ISSUE

ELEVATOR WORLD is planning an issue about “going green.” The issue, which is tentatively scheduled for November, will focus not only on ways in which EW is being friendlier to the environment, but also what the industry is doing. Therefore, we are inviting industry members to submit articles about their environmentally friendly products, services and procedures. Articles should be received by EW no later than September 1. IN MEMORIAM: VICTOR J. MATOSKE

Victor J. Matoske of Richmondtown, New York, died on July 24. A licensed QEI, he had worked for more than 30 years in the elevator industry, including time at Transel Elevator, Slade Elevator, Mainco Elevator, Central International Elevator and Vertical Transportation Excellence, where he had been named project manager in 2006. He is survived by his wife Josephine, children Jennifer, Joseph and Philip, mother Doris Matoske and sister Elizabeth Acquilino.

MELCO RECEIVES AWARD IN SOUTH AFRICA

Melco Elevator South Africa (Pty) Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi’s companies group, has received a Diamond Arrow award by Professional Management Review Africa in its National Survey on Suppliers of Lifts and Escalators. According to Melco, the company “was rated outstanding, first overall in an independent national survey on suppliers of lifts and escalators in South Africa.”

NEW RULES FOR COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS IN CHANDIGARH

The Indian Express reported on July 24 that new building bylaws are going into effect in Chandigarh, India. The changes were recently approved by the union territory administrator. According to the report, the bylaws now allow "box-type structures with certain restrictions" and basements for certain commercial property. The revised rules include provisions for elevators.
