BARBADOS HIGH-RISE PROJECTS

According to The Barbados Advocate, two high-rise office buildings in the Warrens area of Barbados are expected to be complete in March and August 2011. The two projects, The Warrens Towers Two and Baobab Towers, are being undertaken by the National Insurance Department as part of the government’s economic stabilization program. Both projects currently employ approximately 450 people.

PARK STATION FOR LA MESA, CALIFORNIA

According to the Union-Tribune, a mixed-use development that could be as high as 18 stories is being proposed for La Mesa, California. Dubbed Park Station at the Crossroads of La Mesa, the building’s composition is yet to be determined, despite its focus on being public-transportation oriented. Reportedly, no current building in the city rises above eight stories. The development would stand at the southeast corner of El Cajon Boulevard and Baltimore Drive near the city’s downtown.

IN MEMORIAM: SY LEVINE

Sy Levine died on September 30, 2009, at the age of 86. He was an electrical engineer with more than 50 years of experience in many sectors of the electronics industry. A native New Yorker, Levine served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York. After working for a number of years, Levine founded his own company, Electro-Horizons, which provided seminars on basic electronics. Levine wrote and published A Library on Basic Electronics, a three-volume series and CD-ROM, based on the material presented at his seminars. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Esther. Levine is survived by his daughter and two sons, their spouses, and five grandchildren. Information about his memorial service can be found at website: www.scanlanfuneralhome.com.
