YOUNGTAY ELEVATORS FOR CHINESE PROJECTS

China Elevator recently reported on the participation of Youngtay Elevator in two large projects in China. According to the report, Youngtay Co. supplied and installed 115 elevators of various kinds and sizes for Baolong International Community and Town Plaza in Qingdao, China. In addition, China Elevator reported that Shanghai Youngtay had received an order to supply and install 93 elevators for the Lake-shining Housing Estate in Jinjiang, China. The units include machine-room-less elevators and high-rise passenger elevators.

PLANS REVISED FOR BOSTON GARAGE-SITE TOWERS

The Boston Globe recently reported that the owners of the Government Center Garage have changed their plans for the site. The group wanted to raze the garage and build two towers, but have dropped the current developer in favor of Thomas O'Brien, the former head of Boston's redevelopment agency. The proposed project included 42- and 52-story high rises on the site now occupied by the garage. According to the report, the state of the economy had stalled the project under the previous developer.

NEW YORK MTA TO GET OVERHAUL

According to WPIX, new Chief Executive of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Jay Walder released a 24-page report detailing plans for a major MTA system overhaul on January 15. Walder stated that the authority has not changed business practices since its founding in 1968 and that alteration has been needed for a while. One modification is to reinstate a regular painting and repairs program that includes the system’s elevators and escalators, even if they are not broken. Other items include ensuring that stations do not look “dirty and in a state of disrepair.”

CALIFORNIA MAN FOUND IN HAITIAN ELEVATOR SHAFT

According to KTLA, an Azusa, California, man was found alive in an elevator shaft in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on January 16. Working with AIDS patients in the country for a Christian charity group, the Azusa Pacific University alumnus had to be rescued from the hoistway following the devastating January 12 earthquake.
