CTBUH ANNUAL AWARDS CEREMONY REGISTRATION

The Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) will hold its ninth Annual Awards Ceremony and Dinner on October 21 at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. The event will be preceded by a symposium during which presentations on each of the winning projects of 2010 be featured. The deadline to register is October 7, but organizers noted that the 2009 ceremony and dinner booked out many weeks in advance due to limited seating. SHANGHAI MITSUBISHI BUILDING NEW ESCALATOR PLANT

Work has begun on a new escalator manufacturing facility in the Minhang Development Zone in China. The Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator Co., Ltd., plant will cover an area of 53,000 square meters. Construction is expected to be completed in September 2011. It was designed to produce up to 5,000 escalator and moving-walk units annually.

FIRST NAESA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

NAESA International (NAESA)’s Scholarship Selection Committee recently awarded the first of two scholarships to Chelsea Gagle from Pickerington, Ohio. She is the daughter of George Gagle, who has been QEI certified and a member of NAESA since 2005. Chelsea is currently a senior at Pickerington High School North and plans to attend E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, where she intends to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a double major in Spanish. She plans to take her degree to New York City and work as an editor for a magazine or newspaper company, and travel abroad to become more culturally rounded. Both scholarships are given in memory of Floyd J. Rommel, a former NAESA executive director.
