Two dual Alimak construction hoists are onsite for the construction of the Hålogaland Bridge in Norway. When complete, the bridge, at 1,533 m, will be the second-longest in Norway and one of the world's 20 longest suspension bridges.
The Hålogaland Bridge will cross the Rombaksfjorden in the municipality of Narvik, in northern Norway. The bridge will be part of the European E6 highway, and it will shorten the driving distance from Narvik to Bjerkvik by 18 km. The E6 Highway is among the most important highways of Scandinavia, as it connects several key locations in Sweden and Norway.
Alimak Hek supplied the two new dual Alimak passenger and material hoists for the job through Norwegian dealer Kranor. The two dual Alimak Scando 650 FC hoists provide access for workers and materials during the slipforming of the concrete pylons, and followed the moving concrete formworks until topping out at 175 m. Currently, contractor Sichuan Road and Bridge Group of China is using the Alimak hoists to reach the pylon tops, while installing the two main steel cables, each of which measures 1,621 m long and has a diameter of 47 cm. The hoists have also been used to access the tower crane cabins.
The construction hoists are installed with an inclination of 4.5° to follow the incline of the A-shaped pylons. Dual hoist cars were specified to ensure at least one car can be used in emergency situations.
Construction of the bridge commenced in May 2015 and is expected to be complete in mid 2018.
Alimak Hek has provided access on bridge construction projects for the past 40 years. The company’s solutions adapt to inclinations and curves, tight spaces and windy conditions. It also supplies permanent rack-and-pinion elevator solutions for service and maintenance inside bridge pylons.
