LERCH BATES DESIGNING SYSTEM FOR NEW ATLANTA STADIUM
Lerch Bates Inc. has been hired to design the vertical-transportation system for the US$1.4-billion stadium being built in downtown Atlanta. Boasting a first-of-its-kind, eight-piece, retractable roof that mimics a camera shutter, the stadium will replace the Georgia Dome as the new home of the National Football League’s Atlanta Falcons, in addition to a yet-to-be-named professional soccer team. The complex is scheduled for completion in 2017.

EW PHOTO CONTEST: ONLY 15 DAYS LEFT
The third ELEVATOR WORLD Photo Contest is accepting entries through April 30. Last year, more than 250 submissions from 15 countries were received. Both companies and amateur photo enthusiasts have competed in each previous iteration for cash and the chance to be published in EW. Due to overwhelming response in the “Elevators (in any capacity)” category last year, the category has been separated into two: “Elevators (Commercial)” and “Elevators (Private Residence).”
UPCOMING EW FOCUS TOPICS
The deadline for the “Communication Systems” Focus Topic for the June issue of ELEVATOR WORLD has been extended until the end of the week. The July issue will focus on suspension means, including ropes, clamps, sheaves and plastic gears. Its submission deadline is May 15. To participate or for more information, contact the EW Editorial Department at phone: (251) 479-4514, ext. 30 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
